Project Description
WOMEN OF THE WORLD
WOW – Women of the World Festival is a weekend program of talks, discussions, debates, speed mentoring, cultural activities, and much more. WOW is an event for people of all ages and walks of life, which celebrates the formidable strength and inventiveness of girls and women and recognises their achievements, but also examines the obstacles that prevent them from reaching their full potential. The London event has presented, amongst others, Annie Lennox, Malala Yousafzai, Alice Walker, Julie Walter, Ruby Wax, and ex-UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown MP.
WOW was founded by Jude Kelly CBE, Artistic Director of the Southbank Centre London, and now happens across the globe. WOW was launched in Australia in 2013 with a range of satellite events as part of the Sydney Writers’ Festival, and a full WOW program in Katherine, Northern Territory in September 2013. WOW Katherine was so unique and popular, WOW Katherine 2014 was presented in September, once again the Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts & Culture Centre (GYRACC).
The first WOW Brisbane took place from 19-21 June 2015, and was hosted by QUT, with QPAC as the cultural program partner.
